In this video, I brewed a single hop American #IPA with #Galaxy hops, proving to be an awesome juicy, hoppy, beer. This video covers the recipe, the brew, the fermentation and the final tasting. Galaxy is an Australian high-alpha hop that I’ve ben wanting to use for a while, and making a single-hop IPA or pale ale is a great way to figure out a certain hop’s characteristics. This brew included a first-wort hop addition and several others at 20, 10 and 0 min plus a dry hop. Additionally, I added some malt complexity with some flaked rye and crystal 10. Overall this beer was an excellent IPA and I really enjoyed both the process and the beer. The only downside was a mild haze from the dry-hopping (the beer was modeled after west coast style IPAs and was supposed to be clear).

6.4% ABV 83 IBU
11.75 lb 2-Row (78.3%)
1.25 lb Flaked Rye (8.3%)
1 lb Crystal 10L (6.7%)
1 lb Munich Malt (6.7%)
Single Infusion Mash at 151 F (66 C) for 90 min
Water (ppm): Ca: 76, Mg: 28, Na: 65, SO4: 234, Cl: 100, HCO3: 54
60 minute boil:
1 oz (28g) Galaxy (16% AA) as First Wort Hops
1 oz Galaxy at 20 min
1 oz Galaxy at 10 min
1 oz Galaxy at 0 min
Dry hop in the keg with 2 oz Galaxy
OG: 1.060
2 packages or 1 starter of Wyeast 1056 American Ale
Ferment from 65-68 F (18-20 C) for 2-3 weeks, dry hop in keg
FG: 1.012
